I THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD BETTER LUCK PUSHING FROM LOWER DOWN ON THE TRUNK…. it looks like the roots are the problem, then you might have needed a rock at the bottom to punch the dirt down and for the trunk to lean on ….. until the ground held on tighter to the roots.
just an idea. ….
