SciFri: Bacteria

Today we are studying bacteria. A bacterium is a monocellular organism, and they’re pretty much everywhere!
We swabbed a bunch of things, from doorknobs and the toilet seat, to my mouth and Kahi’s mouth too! It’s not easy to swab a cat’s mouth!

Then we applied our samples to some Petrie dishes and put them in our homemade incubator.

Now we wait! We will check them tonight and then again for the next couple of days.

Wait until you see what (and how much) grows on the dishes!!!

I had a course called Bacteriology at Mills College. I loved it!!! For a whole school year, we studied these little “germs” in every way possible. It was a lot of fun actually and I got to wear my own white coat too! Sometimes, though, it makes you want to wash your hands a lot.
